You take a deep breath and think that you must be dead and arrived in heaven! The penetrating blue, stillness, tranquility, and the magnificent snow capped peaks protecting this beauty is one of a kind experience. Getting to Moraine Lake requires planning in advance since the site is not always open to personal vehicles or sometimes even to public. You can take the bus from Banff (reservation required) or go on a group tour which we did. If you take the bus, you will have the flexibility of spending as much time as you’d like to spend – not a bad idea to spare time to kayak on the turquoise waters. However, be ready to wait in the bus line which can take nearly an hour. If you sign up for a group tour, they take to various places including Lake Louis and Moraine Lake, a very convenient way of seeing multiple landmark. BUT, there is always a caveat: you will not have time for any excursions like kayaking and hiking or even lunch as you’re expected back at the bus in 40 mins. Next time, I’ll take the risk of waiting in line and take the bus to spend as much time as possible.
